BY MARK CLEMENTS

Over the first half of this year, we’ve been highlighting information drawn from the World’s
Top Poultry Companies database. Our listing now contains profiles of close to
1,000 companies, and I hope that the articles that we published have encouraged you to go
online to see how much additional information is available and how it can be used.
Of course, this is an ongoing project and the database is continually updated as the months go by. Each year, we also pay particular attention to certain regions, which adds to the strength of our coverage. So if you have not visited in a while, it is worth signing in to see what has changed. The poultry industry is constantly changing.
Which company has grown production over the past 12 months, and which has cut back? Who has merged or been bought? Where have producers expanded into new sectors or consolidated? What has happened to sales?

Top Poultry Companies issue
approaching

As usual, the October issue of Poultry International will be exclusively dedicated to the
World’s Top Poultry Companies database. We will start compiling which companies will
be included in this special edition very soon, so please go online now to check whether your
entry needs revision, or whether we have failed to include you, and send an email to: topco@wattnet.net if changes need to be made.

Multiple industry analysis
Of course, the database can be used in a variety of ways.
First, it is a directory of who’s who in production around the world – be it of chicken,
turkey, ducks, eggs or egg products. But additionally, its data can be used to find out
who are the biggest producers in a particular country or region, or, for example, which poultry companies are the biggest employers.

The performance of individual companies can be tracked, as the database contains information going back to 2008. It can also be a useful tool for uncovering which brand belongs to which company, due to the poultry industry being subject to regular
mergers and acquisitions.
To expand upon individual company profiles, the database offers charts, lists and downloadable spreadsheets of, for example, the top 50 poultry producers worldwide, the top 10 lists for a number of countries and regions – as well as a list of the world’s
leading 350. You also will find a link to last year’s digital edition of our World’s Top Poultry Companies issue.
Compiling the Top Poultry Companies database is not easy, but we are proud of our achievements. Tracking visitors to the database shows that it is popular with our readership too. If you don’t know who’s in and who’s out, now might be the time to pay a visit.
