Iranian exporters want to supply eggs to Russia following Moscow’s ban on produce from Western countries, Iran's Fars news agency has reported.

"Iran will start exporting eggs to Russia in the next two weeks," Managing Director of the Union of Iran's Egg Exporters Hedayat Asghari said, adding that the country was ready to export 5,000 tons of eggs to Russia every month.

According to APA news agency, Asghari said Iran produced an extra 20,000 tons of eggs every month, and part of Iran's egg production surplus was also exported to Iraq, Armenia, Tajikistan and Georgia.

In response to Western sanctions over the Ukraine crisis, Russia banned all meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetable imports from the United States, the 28-nation European Union, Norway, Canada, and Australia for one year. Also Russia almost completely stopped supplies of poultry and eggs from Ukraine.

As a result Russia currently is urgently looking for alternative supplies of these types of products. It is assumed that Brazil and Argentina will replace some part of poultry imports from the US and Ukraine on the Russia market.
