PoultryWorld: The Privé Group commits to cage-free eggs

24-08-2018

Singaporean company The Privé Group has committed to a 100% cage free egg supply chain, signalling a further shift in the Asian food industry towards higher welfare products.

In recent months, other companies have made similar global cage-free egg commitments that apply to Singapore and the rest of Asia, including The Lo and Behold Group, Grand Hyatt Singapore and Andaz Singapore, AccorHotels, Sodexo, Compass Group and Unilever.

The Group – which operates brands such as Privé, EMPRESS, Bayswater Kitch, Privé Grill, The Green Door and Roadhouse – will work with Humane Society International (HSI) and suppliers to complete the transition to cage-free eggs by 2025.

The new policy applies to both shell and processed eggs, as well as products that contain eggs.

Yuan Oeij, chairman of the Privé Group, said animal welfare was a growing global issue: “We are thrilled to do our part toward making things better. It is something that we care about, and we believe our customers appreciate that too.

“We would also love to support the initiatives undertaken by HSI, and switching to a higher-welfare cage-fee egg supply chain allows us to take one small step towards a better world.”

Dawn Neo, corporate outreach manager for HSI Farm Animals in Asia, said the charity was thrilled to be working with the Group: “By adopting cage-free policies, companies around the world are signalling a shift in the food industry towards higher welfare products.”
