Release Date: dinsdag 3 september 2013

Two new outbreaks of H7N3 avian influenza have been reported in Mexico, the World Organisation for Animal Health reported on August 31. One outbreak was found in a layer farm in Jagos de Moreno, Jalisco, while the other was found in a backyard farm with five quails in Valle De Santiago, Guanajuato.

While no deaths were reported in either case, the layer farm has a susceptible population of 10,000 birds. Only the five quails were reported as susceptible at the backyard farm, and all five birds were destroyed.

Control measures applied for the layer farm include quarantine, restriction of movement, vaccination of birds at risk, and epidemiological surveillance at a national level. More than 5.5 million birds have been vaccinated.
